Communicating with USCIS

Now that you've filed your application to adjust status, how do you communicate with USCIS if you're having problems with your case? What if your employment authorization card is taking too long? What if you haven't received any notices about your application for residence, etc.? Here are a few options that you have:
1) USCIS first processes applications to adjust status at the Nebraska Service Center or the Texas Service Center. While the application is pending at one of these Service Centers you may obtain information about your case by calling the National Service Center at 1-800-375-5283. You will be asked for your specific case number so you should have handy all documentation received from USCIS relating to the case you are inquiring about.
2) If you don't feel like getting on the telephone, you can go online to www.uscis.gov and get information about the status of your case by entering the receipt number of the respective case into to "Case Status" box. The information available online is not 100% reliable, but is a helpful tool.
3) If at least 15 days after calling the National Service Center your inquiry about your case is not resolved, you may send an email to the service center processing your case. For the Nebraska Service Center send the email to ncscfollowup.nsc@dhs.gov. For the Texas Service Center send to tsc.ncscfollowup@dhs.gov. Be as detailed as possible about your case. Send both the case number and your alien number along with your inquiry so that USCIS can identify which case you are asking about.
4) If, after sending your email, you do not get a response within 21 days, you may then send an additional email to scopsscata@dhs.gov.
5) Finally, after initial processing at the Service Center is completed, USCIS transfers your case to a local office. In South Florida your case will be transferred to one of the following offices: Kendall, Hialeah, Miami, Oakland Park, or West Palm Beach. Generally, the office where your case is sent depends on your place of residence, that is, the case will be transferred to the local office that is closest to your home. Once the case is transferred you may schedule an "infopass" appointment with the relevant office to discuss the status of your case in person with an immigration officer. To schedule your appointment go to www.uscis.gov and click on the link under the title "Infopass."

I hope this information is useful. If you need additional help following up with your case schedule an appointment with me by calling 305-436-0155.
